QUESTION:
I have a 2000 Cavalier with 168,000 miles on the body. There is advanced rust on the subframe and hood, and several other cosmetic defects.I was told the blue book trade-in value was $480 in "fair" condition. However, this car has a newer motor and trans with about 15,000 miles. How much would this add to the value and does a low-mileage radiator add anything? -Colin, Detroit
ANSWER:
Many smaller race tracks in this area like Columbus Motor Speedway are racing these cars. The book doesn't always reflect cheaper car values. If it runs and looks ok I would sell it for $900ish but make sure you disclose the rust issues.
